Kosovo Foreign Minister meets President

Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Enver Hoxhaj met President Donald Ramotar for talks after signing a Joint Communiqué to mark the official establishment of diplomatic relations, sealing an agreement on bilateral relations.

During a courtesy call today at the Office of the President, Minister Hoxhaj in the company of a delegation and Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, discussed relations between Kosovo and Guyana.

“I explained to the President how between both countries can exchange in some areas from economy, trade, to education, culture and health,” Minister Hoxhaj told the Government Information Agency (GINA).

Built around the principles of multi-ethnicity, democracy and secularism, with an aspiration to membership into the European Union (EU), Kosovo stands as an important bilateral and European partner to Guyana, Minister Hoxhaj said.

Guyana’s recognition of Kosovo as a sovereign state a few month ago was commended by the country’s Foreign Minister today who added that today’s strengthening of bilateral relations adds to the relations.

The support which didn’t gain unanimity came when Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence and the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution by which it requested the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to render an opinion.

Guyana was one of the 77 countries, at that time that supported the resolution and voted in favour of it.
