Leo Club and Men’s Affairs Bureau team up to empower fathers Engagements open to the public

Ministry of Social Protection, Georgetown, July 15, 2016

The Leo Club of Georgetown in collaboration with the Men’s Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Social Protection is inviting young men and fathers to participate in its Project, “U-Turn”, which begins tomorrow.

U-Turn is aimed at equipping men between the ages of 17 and 27 with skills, knowledge and resources needed to become better fathers to their children and better men in their communities.

Among other objectives, the project is hoping to assist some of its participants with partial sponsorship to pursue studies at the Government Technical Institute, the Guyana Industrial Training centre and other tertiary institutions. The project entails three major activities:

 

  1. Life Skills Training under the theme “Be a Provider”, which is aimed at assisting the young men to complete their basic education and find subsequent employment. This will be held on July 16 (tomorrow) at the St. Stanislaus College Auditorium at 13:30 hrs.

 

  1. Interactive Sessions on street law and family law to provide participants with knowledge on avoiding incarceration to stay present in their children’s lives to be held on July 23, 2016 at the National Library from 13:30 hours.

 

  1. Sessions to teach participants the basic skills necessary to raise children will be held at the National Library on July 30, 2016 from 13:30 hrs.
