Min. Trotman and team meet with high-level US delegation

Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman headed a delegation of Natural Resources officials during a meeting with Congressmen and military officials of the United States.

The meeting was held on Wednesday, August 22, at the Ministry of Natural Resources office on Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown.

The 25-member US delegation is in Guyana on a familiarisation visit.

The team includes nine Congressmen, including Chairman Bob Goodlatte, military and other officials. US Ambassador to Guyana, Perry Holloway, was also part of the US delegation during the meeting.

Minister Trotman’s delegation included Head of Planning at the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), Pradeepa Bholnath, Coordinator of the Guyana Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (GYEITI), Dr. Rudy Jadoopat and Chairman of the Board at the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), Stanley Ming.

Discussions between the teams are expected to include developments in Guyana’s newest extractive sector, oil and gas. ExxonMobil is a publicly traded company in the United States and is part of the three-company partnership that is developing the Liza Field in the Stabroek Block offshore for first oil in 2020.

The US had also supported and provided grant funding for Guyana’s EITI bid for candidacy.

The high-level visit is a testimony of growing confidence in Guyana as well as it’s strengthening, Minister of State Joseph Harmon had stated during the initial announcement of the team’s visit.
