The First Lady also lauded Managing Director, Dr. Michele Ming’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services in Guyana.  “Our presence here today at this opening signals two things; first, as a business person, [Dr.] Michelle Ming is confident about the future of our country and shows this by her investment in this new branch. Second, [she] is determined to provide the best possible eye care to the citizens of this country,” the First Lady said.

Representative from the Ministry of Public Health and Advisor to Minister Volda Lawrence, Mr. John Adams, in his remarks, stressed the importance of eye care and said that it is imperative that tangible efforts be made by all concerned stakeholders to raise awareness about preventable blindness and routine eye checks. “I know that this facility, like the others, will render great service to the people of Guyana and particularly the people of Region Three and the contiguous communities,” he said.

After extending congratulations to the proprietors of Ming’s Optical on their expansion of eye care services in Guyana, Mr. Adams said that it is the Government’s desire to continue to encourage businesspersons to take the initiative in moving private enterprise forward.

Meanwhile, Dr. Michelle Ming, in an invited comment, described the services the residents of Parika and surrounding communities will enjoy at the new Branch. “We will be able to offer the people of this region comprehensive eye care where we can have the early detection of glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy and macular degeneration. Instead of having to travel down to Georgetown, we have equipment here now where we can do visual field testing for glaucoma and do eye pressure measurements and a lot of tests that they use to have to go all the way down to town to get. This will also serve the Essequibo Islands, Leguan, Waakenam as well as the other outlying communities,” she said.

The location is fully equipped with all the modern optical equipment and amenities and will cater to residents of the East Bank of Essequibo communities, Essequibo Islands and West Coast of Demerara offering them increased convenience and state of the art optical services inclusive of comprehensive eye testing for both spectacles with a wide variety of frames and contact lenses.

The opening ceremony also saw the attendance of Minister of State, Mr. Joseph Harmon, Owner of Mings Products and Services and Chair of the event, Mr. Stanley Ming and the staff members of Ming’s Optical.
