Over 1,800 jobs secured through government Job Bank

More than 1,800 persons have already secured employment through the government’s Job Bank, an initiative designed to connect job seekers with available opportunities across Guyana.

Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, said the platform is managed through the Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency and serves as a bridge between employers and individuals seeking work.

In terms of active employment, 1,837 persons have secured jobs through the Job Bank,” the minister disclosed on a snippet of Starting Point Podcast on Saturday.

Minister Griffith explained that the system operates similarly to a traditional bank, where employers can deposit job vacancies while job seekers register their qualifications and skills.

With the Job Bank, you come to the bank and you get a job, or you bring a job to the bank. Employers can register vacancies and employees can come and say these are my qualifications and what I can offer,” the minister explained.

According to Minister Griffith, the recruitment agency screens applicants and matches them with suitable positions across various sectors.

Over the last five years, the Job Bank has registered 16,922 vacancies, while 2,960 job seekers have been successfully placed in employment.

The labour minister is encouraging more Guyanese seeking employment to register with the platform so they can be matched with available opportunities.

We continue to ask all Guyanese who are interested and looking for work to come to the Job Bank, tell us what you have to offer and we will try to match you with a suitable job so that you can be productive and contribute to Guyana,” he stated.

Minister Griffith also called on the private sector to support the initiative by registering job opportunities with the ministry so qualified individuals can be connected with employers.

He noted that the Job Bank is one of the mechanisms being used to address labour shortages as Guyana continues to expand economically and new opportunities emerge across sectors.
