Over 300 trainers employed for train-the-trainers sessions
─The train-the-trainers initiative has assisted the development of National Sports Database

Director of Sport Christopher Jones says his department has secured the services of more than 300 trainers to meet its mandate of improving and increasing the number of sport disciplines across the country.
He noted that while it was not permanent, the trainers receive stipends, travelling assistance, and accommodation, among other things.
He said his department hosted numerous train-the-trainers workshops to ensure persons with the requisite skills were hired to work right in their respective regions.
The Director added that this created a positive spin-off for the department as it was able to work on the compilation of a National Sports database. It means the department can now better account for the achievements of various athletes across the country.
According to Jones, the idea was to ensure that youths became well-rounded individuals in keeping with the government’s agenda.
The database features athletes in various disciplines, monitor their training and other development, as well as provide information on coaches. Networking company GY Direct set up the database at a cost of some $2.8Million.
