Port Kaituma to receive 24hr electricity with 2nd engine
DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, December 10, 2019
One week after purchasing a $12Million replacement engine for Port Kaituma, Region One the community is set to receive a second engine that will provide 24 hours electricity to the sub-district.
The installation and subsequent maintenance of the engine will be spearheaded by Power Producers and Distributors Incorporated (PPDI).
With both engines in operation, the fluctuation in power will become a thing of the past.
Last November, Minister of Public Infrastructure Hon. David Patterson said the Hinterland Electrification Company Incorporated (HECI) plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PPDI.
“The idea is, they will sign an MOU, and they will take over the maintenance of the plants in Lethem and all other hinterland locations to ensure that they are reliable and constant,” Minister Patterson asserted.
PPDI currently has four power plants under its management. Those include the Garden of Eden (22 MW), Kingston #1 (22MW), Kingston #2 (36.3 MW) and Vreed-en-Hoop (26.4 MW) power plants.
