President makes timely donation to ISWE youth group

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, May 26, 2018

A call for support from President David Granger by Linden youths was answered.

Several items were recently presented to the ISWE dance group by Regional Party Chairman of the PNCR Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) Deron Adams, on behalf of the Head-of-State.

The inspiring group is supported through an initiative of the Linden Chamber of Commerce Industry and Development (LCICD), from which official sponsorship for the items was sought.

LCICD Executive Member Staydon Payne said the items – a tent, table and several chairs – were sought as a means of assisting with fund-raising activities for the group. He explained, “This initiative emanated from the Linden Chamber of Commerce Youth Initiative. We were frequently asked, what were we doing for youths? So, we at the Chamber began the ‘Youth Development Project’.  The members of the ISWE are the first group of young people we’re working with.”

According to Payne, the Chamber is also working with another group called ‘Young and Thoughtful’. The objective, he noted, was to help various youth groups raise their portfolios. The youths are also empowered through other government-funded projects such as ICT workshops sponsored by the Office of the First Lady and Board of Industrial Training.

ISWE aims to keep talented youths residing in communities such as Silver Town meaningfully occupied through talent-building and empowerment sessions.

ISWE representatives thanked the President for his timely donation. They also presented the Head of State with an official portrait during a recent visit to Linden.
