Refurbished houses for Region Ten teachers, nurses

  • will no longer pay rent until renovations are complete

DPI, Guyana, Friday, June 22, 2018

Teachers and nurses residing in Region 10 can soon look forward to renovations of the state houses in which they live. This decision was made by the Region 10 Councillors at the recently held statutory meeting.

Regional Councillor,  Charles Sampson passed the motion which read in part,  “Whereas, over the years, employees that fall under the jurisdiction of the RDC have occupied and resided in buildings and properties owned by the RDC and whereas many of these buildings have not been maintained to standards that dwelling houses require… be it resolved that the Council requests a temporary suspension of the rental deduction from the requisite employees of the RDC until such time as all the situation relating to housing conditions are corrected.”

Regional Chairman, Renis Morian said that sufficient allocations were not included in the budget for these houses to be repaired. The motion seeks to allow the regional administration to adequately budget for the houses to be repaired. “Until that is done, no rent will be taken from the occupants, let us bring the houses to a proper living standard for the people,” he said.

The RDC will make representation in its 2019 budget for the adequate funds to be allocated for the refurbishment of these homes.
