Schools’ attendance normal despite misinformation on social media

GINA, GUYANA, Monday, October 31, 2016

The rumour that school was cancelled for today, Monday, October 31, 2016, was successfully dispelled by the Ministry of Education and thedsc_4982 Department of Public Information.

The Government Information Agency (GINA) visited schools today, to garner the response of parents and students to the misinformation posted on social media.

Head teacher of Enterprise Primary School told GINA that she took the opportunity to inform her students that Monday (today) was a normal school day and the national holiday in observance of Diwali was Saturday, October 29. The students, therefore knew that today, there would be school as per normal.

Other schools around Georgetown and the East Coast Demerara had no difficulty with students’ attendance.
