Stiff competition at LTW Skip to My Lou competition  

─Students competed in Free Style and Double Dutch categories.

It has been six years since the ‘Skip to My Lou’ jump rope competition made its debut onto the Linden Town Week’s calendar of activities. After the first year, the sport gained maximum attention and became one of the most sought after by the youths in Linden.

Instructors Lindley Langhorne, Shavin Green, Odella Hilkin amongst others, have been instrumental in training scores of students from across Linden to perfect their skills in jump rope. Several of these students have successfully participated in international jump rope competitions in the United States.

At this year’s Skip to My Lou contest, Mackenzie High School and the Regma Primary School emerged as the winners. The students participating in Individual Freestyle, Pair Freestyle and the Double Dutch Freestyle categories and astonished the crowd with their choreography, skills and dance moves while multitasking with a skipping rope in their hands.

Students from across Region Six competed against Region Ten students, however, Region Ten dominated on home soil.  The participating schools were Mackenzie High School, the New Silver City Secondary School, the Linden Foundation Secondary School, the Regma Primary School, the Amelia’s Ward Primary School and the One Mile Primary School amongst others.

For the primary categories, the overall winner was Regma Primary, followed by One Mile Primary and Christianburg Primary came in the third position. For the secondary categories, the Mackenzie High copped first place while the schools representing Region Six took second place followed by the New Silver City Secondary School.

For the Individual Free Style, at the primary level, Janae Green from the Regma Primary School came first while Zimroy LaRose of the One Mile Primary came second. For the Secondary category, Prince Beckles came first from Mackenzie High and Adrian Green also from MHS came second.

Winners were awarded trophies, medals and other prizes.
