Warriors and Tallawahs faceoff on Saturday for top-of-the-table position
DPI, Guyana, Friday, September 7, 2018
The Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Jamaica Tallawahs will go head to head tomorrow at the National Stadium, Providence. While both teams have already qualified for the CPL playoffs, they are battling for the top one or two positions.
Finishing either first or second gives the team an edge in clinching the coveted Caribbean Premier League title. The title has eluded the Warriors for the past five years, though they have made it to the playoffs every year, losing three times in the final round. The Tallawahs have already won one title and are in search of their second.
Head Coach of the Warriors, Johan Botha said that he is happy with the progress of the team thus far, but more importantly, that everyone is 100 percent healthy, especially pivotal death bowler, Keemo Paul. Botha said that tomorrow’s match is a big game, considering that the Warriors just suffered a loss to the Trinbago Knight Riders.
One of the key bowlers for the Warriors, Keemo Paul, who is coming off a small injury, said that the team is treating the game as a must-win match even though they have already secured their playoff spot. Paul said, “I am fully fit, I am back to 100 percent, so I am definitely looking forward to going out there and performing tomorrow once give the opportunity.”
Head coach for the Tallawahs Mark O’Donnell described the game as a crucial one stressing that finishing in the first or second position is very important. However, even though his side is playing away, he said there is no pressure and has full confidence in his team’s ability to deliver.
Currently, the Warriors are sitting in the third position on the table while the Tallawahs are in fourth, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots are second and the 2017 CPL champions, Trinbago Knight Riders are at the top of the table.
The match between the Warriors and Tallawahs bowls off on Saturday, September 8 at 20:00hrs. Guyanese are being urged to come out and support the Warriors on their route to hoisting their first CPL title.
