Achievements of Coalition Govt will resonate with the people – Min Bulkan
– Govt has kept its promises
DPI, Guyana, Thursday, April 18, 2019
The achievements of the Coalition Government will resonate with the people of Guyana whenever elections are held. Speaking with confidence, Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan shared that there has been significant development under the APNU+AFC administration, as it holds the people of Guyana at heart.
In an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI), Minister Bulkan reminded that the next General and Regional Elections will not be a rally but rather a referendum, an expression initially made by President David Granger.
The Ministry of Communities’ decentralisation agenda has positively impacted the lives of thousands, he posited. To further support his view, he pointed to the successful hosting of consecutive Local Government Elections (LGE) after 50 years, a promise made by APNU+AFC alliance prior to its victory at polls in 2015, giving power to the people; a promise made and kept by the administration.
“It is a testimony to the sincerity of this administration, with regards to pledges and promises that it made, but moreover in relation to people’s empowerment. It was proof that we are committed to a decentralised agenda in keeping with provisions in our Constitution which said that these elections should be held to afford citizens the opportunity to elect their own councillors,” he emphasised.
Under the Coalition government, four new towns have been created; Lethem in Region 9, Mabaruma in Region 1, Bartica in Region 7 and Mahdia in Region 8, and have since undergone significant transformations.
Further, Mahdia now boasts of $827M in internal roads which were commissioned last October. Eighty per cent of the roads in Mahdia were upgraded from laterite to concrete structures, built to last for decades. The town of Mabaruma also saw the construction of several new roads that have brought relief to its residents. The township has the country’s first solar farm which will power three-quarters of the town and the remaining quarter will be powered by fossil fuel or diesel.
Lethem is not without its successes as the town has been able to address its waste management challenge and purchase its very own garbage truck. Moreover, to the benefit of its people, several major roads in the region were completed. Lethem is also on the verge of having a state-of-the-art Industrial Estate, scheduled for May completion.
For its part, Bartica leads the country when it comes to going ‘green’. The town boasts of the country’s first ‘green’ recreational park powered by solar energy. It’s also home to the Golden Beach Boulevard.
“I invite the most bias of citizens to visit any of the four areas. Engage any of those residents in those townships and they will tell you first hand of the dramatic improvements that have been made in their townships,” Minister Bulkan confidently challenged the administration’s critics.
The country’s development speaks volumes to the drive by the government to ensure that the good life is provided to all Guyanese.
