BK Group donates $3M to Nationals

The 59th National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships will kick off on Nov. 17 and run until Nov. 22. During the five-day event, student/athletes will face-off in several competitions
The much-anticipated event hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) got a timely boost on Tuesday when the BK Group of Companies made several donations towards the championships.
The donations included a cheque for $1M, Polo shirts valued $1.5M and an additional $500,000 donated to the games by BK SuperMix group.

At the handover ceremony held at BK headquarters, Deputy Chief Education Officer, Ingrid Trotman, (DCEO), expressed appreciation to the organisation, noting that this is an example of a company fulfilling its corporate responsibility.
Second Vice President of GTU, Julian Cambridge said that the union is currently preparing identification badges and other documents for the athletes and officials from the various divisions who will be participating in the games. “We hope with BK coming on board other businessmen and business entities can join soon,” he added.
Last year’s championship, held at the National Track and Field Centre in Leonora, was the largest to date. The event saw District 10 (Upper Demerara/Kwakwani) retaining the title for the third year in a row while District 11 (North Georgetown) and District 13 (South Georgetown) tied for second.
It was highlighted that a donation was also made to Carmel Secondary School from BK International and Jags Aviation Incorporated, towards their graduation on November 8. “Our children not being that fortunate we thought it best to seek sponsorship… and we are pleased to be given the opportunity to be sponsored,” said King, who is attached to the Carmel Secondary School.
In brief remarks, Brian Tiwari of BK International shared his appreciation for being able to contribute to the championships and the graduation. “I am so happy to be a part of this… I am proud of the president for making education number one… it is his vision to make a difference in education, youth and infrastructure and I stand by that hence my support,” he said.
