DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, May 14, 2019

Guyana has been invited to an Aberdeen oil and gas conference billed for September this year. The invitation was extended by British High Commissioner to Guyana, Greg Quinn.

“I am hopeful that there is a contingent from South America’s newest oil and gas hotspot” he is quoted in the local oil and gas news site – OilNOW report, as saying.

President David Granger with British High Commissioner to Guyana, Greg Quinn and Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon during a reception held in celebration of the 92nd birth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II.

‘Offshore Europe’ is a 4-day event being held from September 3 to 6 at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre in Bridge of Don, United Kingdom. This event will focus on maintenance and repair, oil, chemical, engineering, technology among others.

According to the British High Commissioner, the country will benefit from discussions at the conference, as it prepares for ‘first oil.’

He was at the time speaking via a vlog (video blog) he published, following his return to Guyana from the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) which took place in Houston, Texas last week.

Commissioner Quinn said the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and the businesses from Guyana, that travelled to Houston are to be commended for the work they did to promote Guyana and to ensure that Guyanese companies and the Guyanese people benefit from the oil.

“At OTC, there was a real and well-deserved buzz about Guyana and businesses and government here in Guyana are keen to make the most of that buzz,” he stated.

He said the ‘power sessions’ to discuss Guyana were packed.

“I also have large amounts of interest from British companies and trade groups such as the Energy Industries Council and Scottish Development International, all of whom are keen to work with Guyanese partners. I look forward to making these linkages going forward between Guyanese companies and British companies,” he stated.

The High Commissioner said too that this would also include links between Aberdeen and Georgetown councils, all designed to share experiences and lessons learnt, as was made clear during the visit of Lord Provost of Aberdeen with the subsequent signing of the twinning agreement earlier this year.

Commissioner Quinn is looking forward to helping Guyanese participate in the Aberdeen conference.
