COVID-19 cases climb to 116

3 new cases reported

– 13 persons tested in the last 24hrs

The number of confirmed novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases has climbed to 116 following the testing of 13 persons within 24 hours.

In its daily COVIDS-19 update the Ministry of Public Health has disclosed that three more persons have tested positive.

Of these 116 cases, Guyana has recorded 10 deaths and 43 recoveries.

So far, 1065 persons have been tested with 949 of those tested returning negative results.

There are 63 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana. While five others are being monitored in institutional quarantine. Three persons remain housed in the COVID-19 ICU at GPHC

Seven of Guyana’s ten Administrative Regions now have positive coronavirus cases and Central Georgetown continues to be the epicentre of the virus.

The Public Health Ministry is reminding that there are necessary steps that must be adhered to by everyone. These include staying at home and only going out for essential services; maintaining physical distancing in public spaces; washing/sanitising hands before eating, touching your face and before engaging in activities with others and reaching out for medical attention when unwell or coming into contact with a positive case

Globally, the WHO has reported that as of May 15, 2020, there are 4,307,287 confirmed cases with 295,101 deaths. In the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed cases stands at 1,864,468 cases with deaths climbing to 111 934.
