Fashionista adding flair to local clothing industry
DPI, Guyana, Friday, November 2, 2018
Fashionista, Samantha Glasgow is determined to add flair to the local clothing industry for plus-sized and petite women and has been supplying two regions with eye-catching products.
The trendsetter and owner of the Fashion Box, has been meeting the clothing desires of both plus-sized and petite women for more than 23 years. Glasgow noted that while she caters for petite women, her main focus is to supply trendy clothes for the bigger ladies.
“I found that there was a need for sexy clothing for the plus sized girls. Usually, when you see something for a plus-sized person it doesn’t look all fabulous or sexy and I had a passion for that so I started investing in plus-sized clothing.”
For example, Glasgow said, “I bought white dresses and I have about seven to eight patterns in the plus-size suitable for graduation and I have about four patterns in the petite size. The price ranges from $8,000-$15,000.”
According to the fashion retailer, The Fashion Box aims to supply every need for every event at economical prices. “We cater for every occasion. You can actually come in here and get something to go clubbing, to go to a wedding as well as causal events, birthdays and for these, we get a lot of customers.”
Glasgow recalls her 16 years of selling on the pavement of Regent Street before opening a booth in Bourda Market. Today, the mother of four boasts that she owns two “The Fashion Box” outlets. “On the pavement, I realised there was not enough growth for me, I could only buy a certain amount of goods. When you are in this kind of environment there are different types of customers that would come and shop now. They would feel more comfortable and safer than stopping on the pavement and buying from me.”
Ladies interested in getting that spectacular look for any occasion can visit “The Fashion Box” at its Bourda and Charlotte Streets, Georgetown location or at the Bartica Arcade in Region Seven. Persons can also check out The Fashion Box’s Facebook and Instagram pages for previews on clothing items. Glasgow can be reached on 687-5810.
