Guyana to attend high-level tourism meeting in NY

DPI, GUYANA, Friday, May 11, 2018

Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin will represent Guyana at the Caribbean Council of Tourism Ministers and Commissioners hosted by Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO).

The meeting will be held in New York, USA from June 2-7. The conferences are part of CTO diaspora events. Minister Gaskin will be joined by the Director General of Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), Donald Sinclair,

It is expected that Guyana’s participation at these events will facilitate closer collaboration between the GTA and the CTO for the development of mainland tourism in the Caribbean, Minister of State Joseph Harmon stated at today’s post-Cabinet press briefing.

The government recently announced the appointment of US-based Brian Mullis as the new Director of the GTA; which is the statutory body with principal responsibility for the development of tourism in Guyana.

The government has been restructuring the GTA to boost the development of sustainable tourist destinations, especially in the hinterland, and to promote strategic marketing of ‘Destination Guyana’.
