Honorary Consul of The Bahamas calls on the Foreign Minister

Honorary Consul of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Mr. Jairam Mangra, recently called on Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Karen Cummings. Mr. Mangra updated Dr. Cummings on developments in The Bahamas since Hurricane Dorian.

Further, they discussed the establishment of an official registry for Guyanese nationals living in The Bahamas as well as assistance provided by Guyana to The Bahamas and Guyanese impacted by the hurricane. The Minister recalled that, in addition to the offering of a tangible contribution to the Government of The Bahamas, several Guyanese were assisted in their repatriation.

The Foreign Minister and Honorary Consul also spoke about the local eco-tourism sector and the Honorary Consul’s personal effort to promote Guyana in this regard and to facilitate persons interested in doing business with Guyana.

Mr. Mangra was appointed Honorary Consul in 2014.

Diplomatic relations between Guyana and The Bahamas were established on July 10th, 1973.
