A state-of-the-art kitchen valued $8M was commissioned this afternoon at the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital in Region 6 by Ministers of Public Health, Volda Lawrence and Dr. Karen Cummings.

The refurbishment of the kitchen was a project tasked to the Regional Health Services by Minister Lawrence during her previous visit to the region in 2018. During that trip, the health minister encouraged the Regional Health Services to further upgrade the hospital’s kitchen.

This morning, as the minister toured the newly reconstructed and refurbished kitchen, she was notably impressed with the work done by the Regional Health Services.

Minister within the ministry, Dr. Karen Cummings encouraged the staff of the New Amsterdam Hospital, to maintain the highest standards always; that way both the patients and the employees of the health facility can benefit from the use of the new kitchen.

This project is in keeping with the Ministry of Public Health vision 2020. According to the Director of Regional Health Services, Jevaughn Andrew Stephen, the Regional Health Services mandate is to provide essential health care services to the residents of East Berbice Corentyne, and for that to be executed the staff of the health facility must be comfortable in their work environment.
