DPI, Guyana, Thursday, March 21, 2019
Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Jaipaul Sharma took time out to assure Cummings Lodge residents that they will see improvements within their community despite the attempts of the opposition to stymie the work of the government.
“We want to assure you that we will continue to work for the people and all of Guyana, as we are a government for all Guyanese and we are here to bring the good life for every single Guyanese not just Sophia but throughout the length and breadth of Guyana… and so there is a president and there are ministers in government there is no constitutional crisis… Do not let anyone trick you into believing that there is,” he said, during a Ministerial Outreach, held at the ‘C’ Field Community ground.
Minister Sharma stressed that the Coalition Government remains in power until elections are held and as such, citizens should disregard the misinformation that may be circling their community and place their trust in the Coalition Government.
He added that the December 21 Vote will not deter the APNU+AFC Government from pushing ahead with the developmental changes they have implementing.
He added that the currently the case is before the Court of Appeal and a ruling on Friday, March 22 will determine the next step forward.
“This is the first time that this has ever happened in the history. It was in the constitution, but it was never successfully put and challenged, so we will test it in the court,” the minister explained.
Residents agreed with the minister that peace and quiet during this critical time are needed for order to prevail.
Director of Projects attached to Central Housing & Planning Authority (CH&PA), Omar Narine, who accompanied the minister, told residents under the agency’s agreement with Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funded Sheriff/Mandela Road project, $2Billion has been allocated that will also see the development of the community.
“We will see improvements from A field to Cummings Park and we are trying to also do other areas like Plum Park, Farmer’s Field among others. We will be rehabilitating the roads with asphaltic concrete, installing street light and constructing a multipurpose centre,” Narine said.
The minister along with his team who were part of a larger ministerial outreach covering the fifteen constituencies of Georgetown engaged the residents from ‘C’ field Sophia to Cummings Lodge about their concerns and suggestion for the future advancement of their area.
